The Vandoren B50 seems to me much more balanced. The difference (again) with the original piece is enormous. With no other piece I can play that whisper quiet … The tone is sultry. I dug out a thin reed, it works SO DAMN WELL! I LOVE IT!
I’m using a non fancy two screw ligature on it. It is night and day from how it left the Otto Link factory. It plays nice and lush and subtones very well (I’ve tried it on two different tenors, my King and a Yamaha) and it can have a huge edgy sound if I push it. I’ve never got so much projection out of a hard rubber piece on tenor. Important for me the articulation on this piece is very fast / clear and precise. The high notes right up into the altissimo range sing out and are also very even. It is very even throughout the horn with no notes “Popping Out” unexpectedly.Īll the notes play with in clear and precise way with a nice “Ringing Quality”. Sub-tone right down to Bb is easy at a whisper. It is really a fun piece to play, with a very “pretty sound” when played at low volumes. I can say that now I have a metal piece that I am very happy to use, and I have played around with a lot of metal pieces over my time…. I must at this point heartily recommend Max for refacing work, he was a pleasure to deal with and his work is high quality art IMO.Ĭommunication was very easy and through emails we found a descriptive “common language”, and soon we both agreed on a ball park sound concept for in this piece including closing the tip to an 8 (my preference). It blows easily in all registers and allows covering a wide spectrum of music styles! My compliments! Alex H. The Mouthpiece has arrived and I am happily playing it-I really like it. Here is a thread on the Sax On The Web forum about my refacing services: SOTW The work does not finish when I send the mouthpiece back to you, I follow-up with feedback and if you are not satisfied with the work, I keep working on the mouthpiece at no extra charge until I reach your sound concept. My process involves a lot of communications to identify issues and understand expectations.
